Just Doing My Thing.

Hey, all! Don’t have much to report. I’ve just been doing my thing. I have tried something new…and I think I might eat some crow for it, but I’ve added water aerobics to my weekly schedule.

Yes, I know, I know. Wasn’t I the one who said swimming just wasn’t my thing? Well, I still feel that way about swimming (for the moment), but I actually have FUN in the water aerobics (hence forth called WA, because water aerobics takes a long time to type…never said I wasn’t lazy).  Another benefit of WA is that I am the youngest participant by about 20 years! If that doesn’t make you feel young, I’m not sure what would.

I attend class on Monday and Wednesday from 9-10am. It’s not much on the cardio side, but that’s fine with me (I think I get enough cardio via running). But my upper body sure does get a workout with those floaty weight things. I have also felt in in my quads, as we do some “running” back and forth in the pool. Best of all, is that nancy and jim LOVE WA. After the very first day, I really felt a difference. It may be everything combined (compression socks, watching my pace, WA, strectching, etc. etc.) but I’ve not had any calf pain these last two weeks. I honestly believe it’s because I can strengthen and stretch my good ole jim while in the water, and therefore making it non-weight bearing.

So, I recant my rant towards poor water. I don’t think I’ll take up plain old swimming any time soon, but I have found something I can do in the water that I enjoy (see, once again the “Never say never” theory is proven true).

The coolest thing about WA is that there is a lady in the class, Hazel, who is turning 96 tomorrow! I love watching her during class up front doing her thing. THAT is what I want to be at that age.

You GO Hazel!

Until next time!

  1. I just finished Jeff Galloway’s book on running and he highly recommends “WA” for most running injuries…although I think he’s talking more about running in water than the floaty stuff you’re talking about. I don’t think the floaties existed when he wrote the book.

    • Thanks for stopping by! Yeah, they have the weight belts (or non weight belts) at the pool that you can use to “run” in the deep end (I’ve yet to try that). 🙂

  2. my grandmother is 97 years old and goes to water aerobics 3 x a week! I hope I’m still moving and grooving at that age, too! Have fun in class and GO HAZEL!!
