Disequilibrium

In counseling terms (did you know I had a Bachelors in Counseling??) “Equilibrium” is the status-quo in a persons life… the norm. Most everyone has an point of equilibrium in their life. Whenever something is added it throws that sense of sameness “off” and there is a time of turmoil as you strive to find a balance again. That’s where I am right now.

This was my equilibrium: Get up, coffee, run/workout, homeschool, hangout, and possibly have a evening rehearsal (if a show was going on). That was my balanced life.

About a month ago, I was asked if I would be interested in becoming the Office Manager for ArtsView Children’s Theatre (if you are a Longview person and not heard of ArtsView, get out from under your rock and check it out!). This is the theatre that we as a family have been involved with for the past few years and where I stage manage for shows in the Spring and Fall. I said YES, and so added 12 hours of work a week to my schedule (3 days a week/ 4 hours a day). I LOVE it! I love the people I work with, and LOVE the vision and mission of ArtsView. But, it has thrown my equilibrium for a loop (albeit a small loop… it’s still a loop).

I’m slowly getting used to not having my mornings as free as I normally do, and I am trying to get up a little earlier so I can “try” to get a run/workout in before heading out the door. It is slowly coming together, but not as much as I’d like. I will get there, and get my balance back, so I just need to hang on.

I’ve been putting miles in, and a lot of those have been walking miles, but it will all come together. I should be able to catch my breath a little this summer, since I won’t have any evening rehearsals again until the middle of September. Right now, I trying to cut myself some slack and not get too down with what I am doing. I don’t think my fitness has been hurt any… it’s just a mental thing right now.

So far, these are my miles for this year. So really, I’ve been doing pretty well… just need about 14 more miles this month to equal last month. I should be able to get those done in the next week and a half left in May. I’m happy with 60 miles a month!

So, know I’m still around. I’m still running. I’m still trying to figure it all out! Working on enjoying what’s given to me and taking advantage of every day, even if that day didn’t include running. It’s ALL GOOD!

Be Nice and 100 Posts!

This is a reminder to myself, to be nice to myself. I am the worst at self criticism and beating myself up over things. I need to be nice. PERIOD. I’m not sure why, but I seem to be nice to everyone BUT myself at times. Don’t I know that things tend to go better when I approach it with a good attitude and NICENESS? Then why don’t I apply that same pattern to myself? One of these days, I think I’ll get it… hopefully!

March Recap

My total miles for March totaled 57. A little down from January and February, but I’ll take it! I also ran the Azalea 10k (see the previous post) and set a PR for that distance (yes, it might have been my FIRST 10k, but it’s still a PR!). So all in all, March has been a good month.

I’m looking forward to April, and just found out about a 5k this Saturday that I will run. It’s on the Paul Boorman trail in Longview, that I have run a couple of times, so I feel confident that it will be a good time. I think a friend of mine is going to run it as well, so maybe I’ll see her!

I’ve also been thinking lately about what FUEL I’m putting into my body, and trying to make better choices through out the week. Don’t get me wrong… Mike’s hard lemonade and cheeseburgers are alive and well in my future, but during the week I’m trying to stick with whole foods (granola, yogurt, fruit, breads etc.) and leave the “fun stuff” for Friday and Saturday. I’ve also cut down on sweets during the week. Partly because I’ve been so busy and haven’t be able to get to the grocery store… and when I’m there I’m focused just on the items I need (get in and get out). But I think that I should probably try to make this a pattern… during the WEEK…. save those cupcakes for the weekend! Make it special and not an everyday thing. We’ll see how that goes.

I know this blog was kinda all over the place, but that’s the way my brain works sometimes…. my husband is used to it, and you’ll get used to it too.
