It’s Friday!

Yes! I’m a winner!

I’ve been following this site for a while on Twitter, and had been thinking I needed to get over there and get involved but just never did. This past weekend they were having a contest and were giving away two Road ID eCards to the first two people to create a new account and post a new topic. Well, what more motivation did I need? I have been needing a new Road ID (my old one is pretty nasty) and I had been meaning to sign up anyway, so that’s what I did. And guess what…. I was one of the winners! They actually ended up giving away three because I tied with another person in setting up the second new account, that’s pretty cool.

I went with a new Slim Road ID in orange:

I think anyone running, biking, hiking whatever should invest in some kind of ID product. It’s just a good idea. Thanks again, Twentysixtwo and Road ID!!

Tomorrow is the Virtual Run for Sherry spearheaded by Beth over at SUAR. I’m not going to be able to run on Saturday (rehearsal schedule interferes), but will be doing it Sunday. No family should have to go through what Sherry’s has. If you want to, head over and print out a bib and run, walk or bike in her memory. I know it will mean a lot even though the family doesn’t know you.

Hope you have a great weekend!

I’m Here!

Wow! It’s been, what…. FOREVER??!! since I last blogged. It may not be the best excuse, but I’m going to blame Life. Busy, messy, normal everyday Life.

I’ve not done much since the Tyler Half… literally. Running was put on the back burner as the holidays took over. I just took a break…. and ate. 🙂

I’m finally getting back into the groove of  “real life”… school, work, rehearsals, and yes RUNNING! Yay!

Next up, on my running agenda, is the Azalea Trail 10k in March. I figured that would be a nice way to EASE into running again. So, I’ve begun “training”… meaning running on a quasi-regular basis, and doing actual mileage as opposed hit and miss kind of stuff. I’d like to feel at least a little prepared for this one. This past weekend I put in a five miler, and it felt pretty good… so, I think I’m on the right road.

A little insider info, I started this post on 1/30… and am just now getting it done and posting it. Oh, yeah.

One parting idea, that has nothing at all to do with this blog post:

Life is better lived outside YOURSELF.

Happy Running!

Disequilibrium

In counseling terms (did you know I had a Bachelors in Counseling??) “Equilibrium” is the status-quo in a persons life… the norm. Most everyone has an point of equilibrium in their life. Whenever something is added it throws that sense of sameness “off” and there is a time of turmoil as you strive to find a balance again. That’s where I am right now.

This was my equilibrium: Get up, coffee, run/workout, homeschool, hangout, and possibly have a evening rehearsal (if a show was going on). That was my balanced life.

About a month ago, I was asked if I would be interested in becoming the Office Manager for ArtsView Children’s Theatre (if you are a Longview person and not heard of ArtsView, get out from under your rock and check it out!). This is the theatre that we as a family have been involved with for the past few years and where I stage manage for shows in the Spring and Fall. I said YES, and so added 12 hours of work a week to my schedule (3 days a week/ 4 hours a day). I LOVE it! I love the people I work with, and LOVE the vision and mission of ArtsView. But, it has thrown my equilibrium for a loop (albeit a small loop… it’s still a loop).

I’m slowly getting used to not having my mornings as free as I normally do, and I am trying to get up a little earlier so I can “try” to get a run/workout in before heading out the door. It is slowly coming together, but not as much as I’d like. I will get there, and get my balance back, so I just need to hang on.

I’ve been putting miles in, and a lot of those have been walking miles, but it will all come together. I should be able to catch my breath a little this summer, since I won’t have any evening rehearsals again until the middle of September. Right now, I trying to cut myself some slack and not get too down with what I am doing. I don’t think my fitness has been hurt any… it’s just a mental thing right now.

So far, these are my miles for this year. So really, I’ve been doing pretty well… just need about 14 more miles this month to equal last month. I should be able to get those done in the next week and a half left in May. I’m happy with 60 miles a month!

So, know I’m still around. I’m still running. I’m still trying to figure it all out! Working on enjoying what’s given to me and taking advantage of every day, even if that day didn’t include running. It’s ALL GOOD!

Happy Camping!

Give a Little Bit of Heart & Sole…

No, unlike Lindsay over at Chasing the Kenyans (who rocked it by the way), I’m not going to post me singing. Trust me, no one wants to hear that.

No, fortunately for you the title of my blog has to do with the Heart and Sole 5k benefiting Alpine Christian Academy; which I had the honor of running in this morning! What a fun race, and what made it even funner (yes, I know, but it’s my blog and I can use funner anytime I want) is that I got to run it with a very good friend (and another very good friend was manning the aid station!).

99.999% of my running is done solo, because I prefer it that way. It gives me time to think and to, quite honestly, BE ALONE. I don’t get much alone time (homeschool), and really enjoy it durning my runs. In fact, I would probably be happy with being a hermit (I can hold quite and interesting conversation with myself… you should see me in the grocery store).

Today, however, was a nice change from the norm. We were able to chat and laugh and get to know each other better, which is pretty cool. PLUS I ran faster, not because she made me or I felt that I had to in order to keep her happy (I told her from the get go that I was a SLOW runner, and she graciously said she’d let me set the pace), it just happened. I set out to keep a solid 10:30 pace and we finished with a solid 10:07 pace! WooHoo!! I think running solo allowed me appreciate and enjoy today all that much more. Honestly, I’m not sure that I would always want a running buddy… but this occasional run was FANTASTIC!

This 5k was a great way to start a Saturday, and I’m glad that I was able to participate!

Here’s to hoping your Saturday holds great things!

Be Nice and 100 Posts!

This is a reminder to myself, to be nice to myself. I am the worst at self criticism and beating myself up over things. I need to be nice. PERIOD. I’m not sure why, but I seem to be nice to everyone BUT myself at times. Don’t I know that things tend to go better when I approach it with a good attitude and NICENESS? Then why don’t I apply that same pattern to myself? One of these days, I think I’ll get it… hopefully!

this is my 100th post! Wow!!

March Recap

My total miles for March totaled 57. A little down from January and February, but I’ll take it! I also ran the Azalea 10k (see the previous post) and set a PR for that distance (yes, it might have been my FIRST 10k, but it’s still a PR!). So all in all, March has been a good month.

I’m looking forward to April, and just found out about a 5k this Saturday that I will run. It’s on the Paul Boorman trail in Longview, that I have run a couple of times, so I feel confident that it will be a good time. I think a friend of mine is going to run it as well, so maybe I’ll see her!

I’ve also been thinking lately about what FUEL I’m putting into my body, and trying to make better choices through out the week. Don’t get me wrong… Mike’s hard lemonade and cheeseburgers are alive and well in my future, but during the week I’m trying to stick with whole foods (granola, yogurt, fruit, breads etc.) and leave the “fun stuff” for Friday and Saturday. I’ve also cut down on sweets during the week. Partly because I’ve been so busy and haven’t be able to get to the grocery store… and when I’m there I’m focused just on the items I need (get in and get out). But I think that I should probably try to make this a pattern… during the WEEK…. save those cupcakes for the weekend! Make it special and not an everyday thing. We’ll see how that goes.

I know this blog was kinda all over the place, but that’s the way my brain works sometimes…. my husband is used to it, and you’ll get used to it too.

Hope you all have a great week! Happy running!

Enter Your Title Here

I’ve not had much to blog about lately. I’ve been running, wifeing, momming, stage managing, and breathing. That’s about sums it up. It’s been a little busy, but overall? Nothing to complain about.

I’m on the verge of being excited, because during my last few runs, I’ve been able to finish with an overall pace between 10:02 – 10:31! That is very fast for me, and I’m really hoping that I can make that my pace for the 10k on the 26th of this month. That would totally ROCK! (said with my tongue sticking out and my fingers making the “rock on” sign). For a long time I really felt that at 10-ish pace was just not in the cards for me, but it looks like (at least on the shorter distances) it just might be feasible, and that makes me happy. I’m not “fast” by any stretch of the imagination, but faster than I was and I’m good with that.

Sorry for the boring blog…. Back to the regularly scheduled laundry pile.

Keep on Keeping On!
