Azalea Trail 10k Recap

This past weekend was the Tyler 10k. It was a GREAT run, and I had a lot of fun. The scenery was beautiful, and I felt fantastic throughout the entire course. There was one “big” hill (that I chose to walk), but other than that you couldn’t ask for a better course (there were little hills through out, but nothing terrible). The picture above is the start/finish line. I know there are better pictures of it, but I didn’t want to search through all those photos again, so you get stuck with this one.

There were 661 finishers and I placed 499, a solid middle of the pack finish. My chip time was 1:08:40 (making it an 11:02 pace!) and I am VERY happy with that! And, since it’s my first 10k… AUTOMATIC PR!! Phil forgot the camera, so here are some race day photos from the pros.

If you look right in the middle of the text you’ll see me in the sea of white shirts. I’m in green (or teal or whatever) with a pink hat.

I believe this is the start of the race. Most of the course was on brick streets, which was nice!

This was probably around mile 2 or 3. I was waving to people cheering us on (I think).

That’s me… behind the guy on the left.

Closing the distance… LOL

At the finish line (or close to it). I don’t really like this picture, but since it’s the only one I have I’ll use it.

After it was all said and done, we went to go eat at The Egg and I. It was a great start to a wonderful day. I’m already planning on running this course again next year!

Have a rockin’ Thursday!

PS… can I just say that most people who run these types of things should WEAR SHIRTS…. that is all.

This image has nothing whatsoever to do with THIS blog post, but I was over at I’m a Sleeper Baker‘s blog, and now I have cupcakes on the brain. That, and I think I’ll get a cupcake after the 10k on Saturday… I’m mean, come on, we have to run for SOMETHING right?!

Saturday is the day! I’m as so ready and excited for this 10k. I feel amazing! No hurt body parts, no sore this or that, just ready to run. Lately my times have been in the 10:20-11:00 pace range.. and I am so stoked! This is SMOKIN’ for me! I do have some goals, but mainly I want to enjoy this run. It’s going to be a beautiful course through the Tyler Azalea Trails. We drove it the other day, and the beauty is simply amazing. There is one hill that looks like it will be a challenge, but other than that, nothing that I have run before. I won’t be taking pictures during the run, but I have some of the trails from last year that I’ll share with you! (but don’t ask me to share my cupcake… it’s just not going to happen)

As you can see, it’s going to be beautiful! Here are my goals (A, B and C)

Goal A: Finish within an 11:00 pace (anything under 12:00)

Goal B: Finish within a 10:30 – 10:40 pace

Goal C: Finish within a 10:10 – 10:20 pace

I know I can finish this race, so that’s not an issue. This go around, I want to focus on time a little more, WHILE still having fun. Because in the end, that’s what it’s all about!

Hope you have a GREAT Wednesday!

I’ve not had much to blog about lately. I’ve been running, wifeing, momming, stage managing, and breathing. That’s about sums it up. It’s been a little busy, but overall? Nothing to complain about.

I’m on the verge of being excited, because during my last few runs, I’ve been able to finish with an overall pace between 10:02 – 10:31! That is very fast for me, and I’m really hoping that I can make that my pace for the 10k on the 26th of this month. That would totally ROCK! (said with my tongue sticking out and my fingers making the “rock on” sign). For a long time I really felt that at 10-ish pace was just not in the cards for me, but it looks like (at least on the shorter distances) it just might be feasible, and that makes me happy. I’m not “fast” by any stretch of the imagination, but faster than I was and I’m good with that.

Sorry for the boring blog…. Back to the regularly scheduled laundry pile.

Keep on Keeping On!
